Food Distribution
The Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations is a program of the Food and Nutrition Service of the U. S. Department of Agriculture. This program provides foods for good health to households living on Indian reservations. Indians living off the reservation in the service area may also be eligible provided they live in a town with the population of less than 10,000. You may qualify to receive these foods if you are low-income. NOTE: Persons receiving CalFresh (food stamps) are not eligible for the program.
WHAT SERVICES WILL I RECEIVE IF I QUALIFY FOR THIS PROGRAM?
Once a month you will receive a variety of foods designed to help you maintain a healthy diet. You will also receive information about nutrition education, recipes and physical exercise.
HOW DO I APPLY?
Applications are available at our office and on-line. Complete the application and return it to the office and arrange for an interview with the Certifier.
HOW IS MY ELIGIBILITY FOR COMMODITIES DETERMINED?
- Income – Your eligibility is based on your net income, such as earnings and unearned income (TANF, pensions, Social Security benefits, etc) after allowable deductions.
- Deductions – Dependent care, medical expenses in excess of $35 with qualifying person, shelter and utility standard deduction and court ordered child support.
- Residency verification
WHAT INFORMATION SHOULD I BRING WHEN I AM INTERVIEWED?
- Proof of income (earned & unearned).
- Proof of allowable deductions (shelter/utility expenses, child support, dependent care, medical expenses).
- Residency verification; SDG&E, DishNetwork/Directv bill or a letter from the Tribe of the reservation you live on.
